Going to Waterloo…

Waterloo is found on the railway line 124: Brussels – Nivelles - Charleroi (Brussels – Waterloo – Braine-l’Alleud – Nivelles – Charleroi).

The Waterloo station is the closest to the Wellington museum.

It takes approximately a 15 minute walk to get from the Waterloo station to the centre:

You can also start your visit on the Battlefield (Memorial 1815).

The closest station to the Memorial 1815 is the Braine-l’Alleud station: see itinerary.

To go straight to the Memorial 1815 from the Braine-l’Alleud station, take the W bus (towards Brussels) which will bring you there in 5 minutes.

TRAINS from BRUXELLES to WATERLOO –> Wellington Museum

Only the IR (Inter-Regional) trains stop in Waterloo.
In general, outside of peak hours, there is only one train per hour. The trip from Midi station takes approximately 22 minutes.

TRAINS from BRUXELLES to BRAINE-L’ALLEUD –> Memorial 1815

the direct IC (Inter-City) trains and the local IR (Inter-Regional) trains stop in Braine-l’Alleud.
Outside of peak hours there are, in general, three trains per hours of which two are direct ones. In this case the trip takes approximately 14 minutes as there is no stop between Brussels and Braine-l'Alleud.

Coming back to Brussels from Braine-l'Alleud or Waterloo…

It is more convenient to return to Brussels from the Braine-l’Alleud station. There are three trains per hour towards Brussels and the Braine-l’Alleud station is the closest to the Battlefield/Memorial 1815.

From Waterloo station, outside of peak hours, there is one train per hour towards Brussels.

  • The last train from Braine-l’Alleud to Midi station is scheduled at 23:50.
  • The last train from Waterloo to Midi station is scheduled at 23:54.
  • A one-way ticket from Midi station to Waterloo costs 3.70€.
  • A one-way ticket from Midi station to Braine-l’Alleud costs 4.10€.

If there are several of you travelling or if you plan on doing this trip multiple times we recommend that you buy a “KEY CARD” valid for 10 days that costs +/- 21.00€ (this allows to have 5 return trips from Braine-l’Alleud or Waterloo to Brussels if you are by yourself).
From 19:00 on Fridays to Sunday night there is a special tariff called "week-end internet".
